Reservation In Parliament

Before writing this blog i just want to say that i m not a very good writer but i do write vat i strongly believe.

This is a very simle question that i ask to all the political parties supporting the reservation in educational institutes, Will they ever bring an amendment in the constitution to impose 50% reservation for backward class (SC,ST,OBCs) for the parliamentary seats? Is the group of ministers ready to formulate a plan so that the no of seats for general candidates in the parliament remains same? We all know that the answer is no because when it comes to the parliament these ministers can’t afford to loose their power to so called backward classes. When they can’t accept women in parliament there is nothing to talk about backward classes.

Let us now consider how many of these parties actually support growth of backward classes. Starting with the Left parties, the main front who opposed NDA govt. for its so called favoritism to upper classes. 95-98 percent of the leaders of these parties belong to upper classes and they are the people who always talk about uplifting backward classes. Same is the scenario with Congress. When these parties don’t allow the full representation to the backward classes within themselves how can they even say that they are doing all this for their benefit. They are doing this just to increase their vote bank by dividing the country on the basis of castes.

Another burning issue in the present reservation scenario is that the reservation is passed from one generation to other as inheritance. Is it some kind of legacy that is passed from one generation to another? The problem with this approach is that everytime same set of people use the reservation for their benefit while those who are actually in need of it can't make use of it because they don't have enough resources to persue their dream.One possible solution for this problem is to provide a clause in the reservation bill that the reservation once used by a person will not be passed to his/her children as inheritance. Another possible solution can be providing financial assistance to the backward classes i.e. if anyone from backward class is able to get an admission into an institute on the basis of its admission procedure then he/she will be provided with full financial assistance

The govt. took the decision unanimously without consulting the Directors/Vice Chancellors of the Universities whether it is feasible to increase seats on such large scale. This decision will crumble the infrastructure of most of the institutes, including IITs and IIMs. It is still beyond imagination how the govt. is going to provide trained faculty to these institutions when there is already a scarcity of trained faculty in most of the institutes. More importantly this unanimous decision of the govt. will degrade the quality of the education and our premier institutes will surely suffer in world ranking.

The govt. decision to implement the reservation bill will do no good to anybody except it will increase the gap between the people from upper classes and lower classes as it is clearly visible from the various anti-reservations protests going on all over the country.
